Welcome to the Castle Club of Des Moines’ web page. The Castle Club is a ballroom dance club that enjoys live music and dancing the waltz, tango, rumba, foxtrot, mambo, cha cha, swing, and other dances all in a welcoming setting.
Our club is a great place to start ballroom dancing no matter your skill level. Members of this club have been dancing in Des Moines since 1913. Named for the celebrated ballroom dancers Vernon and Irene Castle, our dance home began in Hoyt Sherman where we have continued to dance at least occasionally. Dances were formal until just a few years ago, with men in tuxedos and women in gowns.
While our tradition of formal dance attire has now relaxed, we still dance to live bands, and we will always consider ourselves a “social club with dancing.” We love to make new friends through our dances whether on the dance floor or over dessert and coffee during breaks.
Socializing, a bite of dessert and sip of coffee midway through our dances make each dance evening an opportunity to strengthen our friendships and to find new friends.
